A Trustworthy Leader and Consensus Builder

Ypsilanti mayor Paul Schreiber is an effective and trustworthy leader, a consensus builder who has won the support of a variety of Ypsilanti citizens across every ward and neighborhood. Mayor Schreiber has worked hard to erase old battle lines and bring people together to forge positive and constructive solutions to our city’s many challenges.

With the rest of our nation, the state of Michigan has been suffering from the greatest economic downturn in generations. While Ypsilanti has not been spared, it continues to make steady progress as a rising success story in our region. Over the past four years, Paul Schreiber’s integrity, vision, and experience have been instrumental in leading Ypsilanti toward new opportunities and a brighter future.

Maintaining Fiscal Responsibility:
Despite ongoing fiscal challenges, Ypsilanti under Schreiber’s steady leadership has maintained a balanced city budget and solid, transparent accounting while, at the same time, minimizing cuts to city services that are essential to our community’s quality of life.

Encouraging New Business:
Schreiber has actively encouraged investment in Ypsilanti. Over the past four years, new investment in loft condominiums, retail stores, and restaurants and nightclubs has strengthened our already vibrant mix of small, independent, and locally owned businesses. The new SPARK East small business incubator on Michigan Avenue has become a powerful catalyst for creative entrepreneurs and professionals.

Building Regional Cooperation:
Schreiber has actively worked to improve and build Ypsilanti’s relationships with Eastern Michigan University and our neighboring Washtenaw County communities. Fostering these relationships is essential to Ypsilanti continuing to maximize its limited financial resources.

Supporting Strong Neighborhoods:
Schreiber has been a tireless advocate for Ypsilanti’s many neighborhood and business associations and community groups, including friends groups for the Rutherford Pool, Parkridge Community Center, and the Ypsilanti Freighthouse.

Transforming Our Community:
Schreiber believes that Ypsilanti’s long-term prosperity depends on its ability to attract and welcome an eclectic mix of creative and energetic people, including artists, musicians and entrepreneurs, to live and work in the city. This will only enrich the life of our community and bolster Ypsilanti’s ongoing transformation into a twenty-first-century city with an economy based on education, arts, entertainment, and new technologies.

Fostering Sustainability:
Schreiber has encouraged efforts to bring solar panels to our City Hall and community gardens to our parks and schools. He has worked to make our community more pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly and to promote urban agriculture, all elements in the ongoing effort to make Ypsilanti a “greener” and more sustainable place and to enhance its quality of life.

Respected and trusted by those who have known and worked with him, Paul Schreiber has built trust and brought people with diverse viewpoints together to solve problems and move Ypsilanti forward.

An engineer by trade, Schreiber is an innovator and a hands-on problem-solver who quickly grasps complex issues and seeks out new ideas and fresh approaches to grappling with our city’s challenges.

Mayor Paul Schreiber remains committed to keeping Ypsilanti strong and dedicated to preparing for its future. He has never shied away from taking difficult stands or making hard decisions, if he believes they are in the long-term best interest of our community. He understands that making tough choices now can only help to ensure a brighter and more prosperous future.
